Ebony Horse Club @ Polo in the Park

Four  teenage members of Ebony Horse Club had a great day out on June 7th at Chestertons Polo in the Park, held at the Hurlingham Club in London. It was the first chance for many of them to watch a match and to learn more about the sport and the SoK team were proud to capture not just the action on the pitch but these first time experiences off it for the children involved.  They cheered on the Mint London Team during their match with Shoreline Lagos and were very excited to meet both teams afterwards.

"Unfortunately London lost but Lagos played really well" said Indigo, aged 12.

It was an inspiring day for these young people. They have been practicing on their horses at the charity's own riding centre in Brixton, preparing for a day at Somerton Polo in Lewes where they have been invited for a taster day in July.

"Our horses don't really get neck reining so it's going to be amazing to ride real polo ponies," said Jordi, aged 15.

Polo is the most recent addition to activities being introduced to these young urban riders.

"It's wonderful to see their enthusiasm. A day out like this, is a fantastic experience for them to build on their own ambitions. Maybe we'll see an Ebony Horse Club player here one day!" said Jody Thorsby, a volunteer with the charity.

The charity relies heavily on volunteers like Jody to provide opportunities for these young people growing up in one of the most disadvantaged areas in the UK.
